The first time I stepped into a cat cafe was 2018 in Vancouver. I had heard of cat cafes, but never been in one. I imagined them being beyond a dream and more. And after that first visit, I was in love. The option to order a capurrchino, or an ameowicano... abundance of cat merchandise... and the ultimate cat play room? I was in cat freaking heaven. Also, the interior designer in me adores a thought out designed room and space. This cat cafe was no exception, and the one I'm about to share with you, isn't either.
Tucked away off the cold snowy streets of Portage Avenue in Winnipeg lies a home and haven for feline friends, in the name of Cleocatra Cat Cafe. Only 7 months after opening, Cleocatra has welcomed thousands of guests through their door and are now coming up on their 130th cat adoption. If you live in Winnipeg or are stopping by for a visit, adding Cleocatra to your visit list, is a must.
This eclectic oasis houses heart, home, creativity, love, and community. The moment you step in, you feel as if you've been transported to another time and another world. The interior design is magical and creative. There's victorian flair, arrays of antiques, and enough carefully curated ornamental pieces to keep your eyes wandering in curiosity.
A Cozy Connection
I recently went back to Cleocatra for a second visit, but this time, with more personal intention. My first time was a whimsical stop by to celebrate my one year work anniversary. It was a quick and cute in and out, but I longed for more time and knew I would be back. This time, with good company and a friend in tow. I absolutely love finding new places and experiences and bringing friends and family back to share in new discoveries. There's something magical about sharing a first time moment with someone. It's kind of like having a favourite movie and watching it with a friend who's never seen it. There's nothing better than watching them, watch the movie. You know what I mean?
Cute Crafted Coffees
Cleocatra has a beautiful beverage menu, ranging from Vietnamese coffee to smoothies and sweet or savoury sips. I ordered a london fog that came in a cute elephant ceramic mug and my friend enjoyed an americano in a cute cat cup. Cleocatra Cat Cafe strongly encourages connection and community. The chairs are comfortable and invite you to stay awhile. Guests are encouraged to spend time off their phones and they even includes a small craft as part of your admission to keep you engaged with mindfulness, to spend time in the moment you're in.
Cuddles in the Cat Room
The reason we're all here. The cat room. It's highly recommended to reserve a time slot for visiting the cat room, to ensure availability. Each admission ticket includes a 1 hour visit in the cat room, 1 craft, and 1 cat treat! Cleocatra Cat Cafe is split into two areas, the coffee room front of house, and the cat room in back of house. The cat room is cute, comfortable, and a crazy cat ladies dream. It truly is incredible. There are cute cat feet slippers to wear as outdoor shoes must be removed, There are chairs, toys galore, and a few kind house rules to ensure everyone has an enjoyable time; most importantly, the cats!
