Why I'll Be Going Back to Bozeman, Montana

Updated: Apr 16

Short, sweet, sultry and a little bit of sass. Sometimes the best places visited are bite sized.

The Best Places Are Bite Sized

Some of the best places I've experienced on the surface level have been bite sized and I'm okay with that. On a recent family road trip down south driving through the Unites States, we came across Bozeman, Montana. We were set to only stay there the one night, arriving in late to have supper, only to wake up in the morning to continue our drive. Boy do I wish I had more time to explore, but it's okay. As Arnold would say, I'll be back.

Where Are The Duttons?

If you know, you know. And for those of you who don't, I'll explain. A few weeks ago my husband and I had finished watching the tv series Yellowstone. We weren't quite sure we would be into it, but we seen it through to the end. Majority of the show is based off of a family ranch near Yellowstone National Park, but a prominent featured city in the show is you guessed it, Bozeman, Montana. Needless to say I was ecstatic to have my very own Beth Dutton moment and walk the streets of Bozeman. One of her more let's say.. calmer moments. It may not have lasted long but I made every minute worth it.

A Downtown Distillery & Time with Ted

As we checked in late, I knew there wouldn't be much time for having a night out on the town after having dinner, as we were all tired and very much wanted to sleep. So, the next best thing? Pick a spot to grab food downtown. You're always almost guaranteed to be greeted with lively shops, character, and memorable photo ops. #DowntownBozeman delivered!

The beautiful Bozeman Spirits Distillery was right beside where we parked. I had just enough time to capture its cool vibe and after peaking in through the window, I only wished we had stayed for a cheers. Next time.

Dinner took us just down the way from the distillery into the historic Baxter Hotel, which we were not expecting. It reminded me a lot of The Fort Garry Hotel, back home in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

We ventured on to Ted's Montana Grill for eats, tucked away on the first floor of the hotel. I had ordered the St. Phillip’s Island Crab Cake that consisted of a jumbo lump crab with guacamole and a small kale salad. I kept dinner light while also ordering a side of their Parmesan Roasted Broccoli. I had seen heaping plates of kale salad being pumped out of the kitchen and figured folks in Montana must really like their kale. The shear volume intrigued me and I looked forward to trying the small portion that came with my meal. One bite in, I ordered a separate, larger salad. When I tell you that was a damn good kale salad, that was a damn good kale salad. It was the talk of the rest of our evening and while they listed the ingredients, my mom and I scoured our flavour palette to try and identify that one secret ingredient.

There were a lot of cute and fun take aways from our brief trip to Bozeman and as I try to do best with my words, I speak best through photography. Undoubtedly I'll be going back to Bozeman as it truly spoke to me. The visit was short and sweet and the city felt sultry, with a little bit of sass.
